On October 24, 2012, just nineteen days after her 11th birthday, Avery Johanna McCarthy was tragically killed in a car accident.
Avery lived life with a contagious laugh and a smile for others, led by her faith in Jesus Christ. Avery had incredible passion for the people of Haiti and dreamed of one day operating an orphanage for children in Haiti.
Proceeds from this run will go to support AVERYday Ministries and the programs it supports. One of the most heartfelt projects is The Avery House, a transitional home in Haiti for girls, aged 18-25. It is understood that most 18 year old girls will age out of the orphanage with a 6th – 7th grade education. With little to no support system in place, they find themselves at great risk of physical and sexual abuse while attempting to secure shelter and food on a day-to-day basis. The daily struggle to survive is so prevalent, much needed education falls easily to the wayside.
The Avery House will change the futures of these young ladies.
With safe food and shelter provided, these girls will be able continue their education in a Christian setting, securing a future they can be proud of.
As of March, 2015, AVERYday Ministries has raised $17,000 of its $50,000 goal to purchase land, build a home and begin providing the food, water and education fees for the forgotten daughters of Haiti.
